I learned so much about the history of the expansion of Notre Dame as well as the roots of their existence. I really love history, so to know that our school has such a rich background full of different events and influential people is so interesting. Which event that you learned about from the Church History textbook presentations did you find most interesting and why? I found the presentation on the Inquisitions most interesting because I never knew about the more violent side of the Church. I liked to see how different areas of the faith tackled the heresy issue. What I didn't like was how many responded with abundant violence when it was clearly not how the Bible describes. The officials leaned towards conversion, but most cases were dealt with execution. I just felt that it is important to learn about both the positive and negative parts of the church. By seeing how history has been shaped by the good and bad, it encourages us to grow with that knowledge and learn how to be better Catholics. Could you ever see yourself sharing similar messages that your Letter Writer did? Why or why not? How would you share them? I could definitely see myself sharing similar messages that James did. I appreciate his sense of faith and his morals, and I could explore the ways of his Word. I would first spread the message of helping sinners overcome the darkness in their life. Being able to impact those people like that really interest me. I would share them through social media, speeches, throughout my school, and possibly even creating a life passion for helping people. In what ways did the people you learned about during this unit suffer? What was their reaction to their suffering? The people I learned about in this unit suffered in great lengths to appease God and stay morally good. They were killed, thrown in prison, and tortured among the many ways of suffering they faced. They also faced mental torture from being excluded from society based on their faith. However, their reaction was that of strength. They took God's Word and Faith in Him to their heart the escape the torture and thrive as people. Although the apostles that we learned about suffered through great trauma, in the end, God helps them through this difficult part of their life and saves them from the pain. 2. What are some new things that you learned about the original disciples from the group projects? (Be specific). From the group projects, I learned so much information about each and every individual disciple. Many of the disciples, such as Peter and Andrew. Many were martyred for their faith by being crucified, such Peter, Bartholomew, and Jude. I learned that Matthew's symbol was the winged man. I also learned that disciples had previous names, such as Matthew's previous name was Levi and Peter who was originally Simon. Another detail that I learned was that many disciples were buried in Saint Peter's Basilica, such as Saint Peter himself as well as Saint Jude. What were new things that you learned about the Beatitudes? I have always heard about the Beatitudes, but I have never fully delved into learning about them. I learned so much new information regarding each Beatitude and why they were so important. Finer details such as how they were told and why they made such a large impact helped them resonate with me. They are each different and relate to Jesus' teachings in a unique way. They also relate to my personal life and give me helpful guidelines to live my life morally.
